Apparently winter is the healthiest season and we need to STOP complaining. Oh.
So you mean to tell me that the season that brings hours of shovelling snow, wearing a jacket heavier than your own body weight, and having the tan drained from your skin is the HEALTHIEST?
According to researchers for the Netherlands, and Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, cold air does wonders for your health and maintaining your weight. “Whenever we’re exposed to the same stagnant temperature for an extended period of time, our bodies lay in limbo, not particularly galvanized to work one way or the other. But when cold air is breathed in, our systems are shocked into activity, forced to ramp up the energy in order to keep our core temperature up. We burn calories just trying to stay warm.” So just by existing, us Canadian’s are burning calories. Suck it, California!!!!
Also, another study shows that when breathing in cold air on a regular basis, we become at a lower risk of developing diabetes.
Next time you’re waiting for the bus in the cold…at night…in -50 degree weather…without a scarf or gloves, just think – getting fitter by the second!!!
